“Take Sides”

As I sat in the airport, awaiting my flight home after my last day at the Social Justice Training Institute, I opened a bottle full of social justice buttons that the trainers gave us on our way out. This button was the first one I pulled, and it resonated with me so much that I had to take a picture.

TAKE SIDES. Neutrality helps the oppressor, never the victim. Silence encourages the tormentor, never the tormented.”

–Eli Wiesel

It was just what I needed to hear at the time, and I hope it gives you the push you need to what needs doing in your life and work.

I'm a Social Justice Educator and Aspiring Humanitarian who is interested in conflict resolution, improving intergroup relations, and building more equitable and inclusive communities. "Notes from an Aspiring Humanitarian" is my blog, where I write about issues of diversity, inclusion, equity, and social justice. By exploring social identities through written word, film & video, and other forms of media, I hope to continue to expand and enrich conversations about social issues that face our society, and to find ways to take social action while encouraging others to do so as well in their own ways.
